COOPER, Jacob Preston

After residing in Hillsboro and vicinity for more than 90 years, Jacob Preston Cooper died at 8:00 o'clock Sunday evening October 15 at his home in Hillsboro. He was one of Hillsboro's oldest citizens, who had
been prominent in the town's business circles for many years. On May 21, 1944, he fell at his home and suffered a fractured hip and since that time has been confined to his home, outside of a short time spent
at Culver Hospital.
Mr. Cooper was born March 25, 1854, near Centerville, in Delaware County, Ohio, the son of James and Lucinda Allen Cooper. His parents moved to a farm west of Hillsboro when he was six weeks of age and
remained in that vicinity for a number of years. He was one of a family of 16 children, all of whom preceded him in death with the exception of one brother, Miles Cooper of Hillsboro who is past 93 years of age.
On December 23, 1879, he was married to Miss Elizabeth Glascock, who also resided west of Hillsboro and they went to housekeeping and resided in that vicinity until 1891 when they moved to Hillsboro. For 13 years
Mr. Cooper was engaged in the mercantile business with his brother-in-law, the late JT Claman and for a number of years was cashier of the Farmers & Merchants Bank of Hillsboro. He had long been a member of Hillsboro Christian Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Cooper were the parents of one daughter, Gracie Lucinda Cooper, who died when she was six years of age. The survivors are the widow; one brother, Miles, together with a large number of nephews and
nieces. The Rev. HA Davis of Clermont, a former pastor of the church was in charge of the funeral service held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Christian Church with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. - transcribed

Jacob Preston Cooper, 90, retired business man and one of Hillsboro’s oldest citizens, is dead at his home there of a broken hip suffered may 21. Born near Centerville, Ohio, he was one of a family of 16 children, all of whom preceded him in death except a brother, Miles Cooper, 93, Hillsboro. He had lived in this township since he was six weeks old and on Dec 24, 1879, married Elizabeth Glascock, who survives. He was engaged in the mercantile business with his brother-in-law, JT Claman, 13 years and was cashier of the Farmers & Merchants Bank, Hillsboro for several years. He was a member of Hillsboro Christian Church. Funeral services were held at Hillsboro at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Christian Church with the Rev. HA Davis, Clermont, in charge. Burial was made in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro.
